Bis heute ist der Ursprung des Cane Corso umstritten. Es wird vermutet, dass schon im 4. Jahrhundert eine Form dieser Rasse existierte. Glaubt man historischen Überlieferungen, liegt seine Herkunft in den südlichen Regionen Italiens. Sein direkter Vorfahre ist der alte römische Molosser 'Canis Pugnacis'. Vor vielen Jahren war der Cane Corso ein hochgeschätzter Beschützer von Besitz, Vieh und Leuten und wurde mit Vorliebe für jagdliche Zwecke verwendet.

Zahlreiche Abbildungen und historische Quellen zeigen, dass diese Rasse in der Vergangenheit in ganz Italien verbreitet war. Durch verschiedene Umstände war der Cane Corso vom Aussterben bedroht. Einige Enthusiasten bemühten sich jedoch um seine Rettung, die heute glücklicherweise als gelungen bezeichnet werden darf. Die offizielle Anerkennung des Cane Corso erfolgte durch den Welthundeverband FCI im Dezember 1996 in der FCI-Gruppe 2.

                                                                                Der Name des Cane Corso leitet sich aus dem lateinischen Wort 'cohors' ab, das so viel wie 'Wächter, Beschützer' bedeutet. Er ist ein unübertroffener Wach- und Schutzhund; Ergeben und liebevoll zu seinem Besitzer, zärtlich zu Kindern und seiner Familie. Gegenüber Fremden hält er sich zurück und zeigt sich eher uninteressiert.

Der Cane Corso ist ein mittelgroßer, kräftig gebauter, aber trotzdem eleganter Hund ohne anatomische Übertreibungen. Er tritt in den unterschiedlichsten Farben auf, beispielsweise in schwarz, braun, formentino (hell), blau, rot und mit farblicher Stromung. Sein Aussehen vermittelt den Eindruck von Ausdauer, Kraft und Beweglichkeit. Er hat kräftige Knochen, der Kopf ist massiv, sein Blick ist voller Feuer, zugleich edel und ausdrucksvoll.
Der Hals ist stark und muskulös, seine Haut ist fest verbunden mit dem darunter liegenden Bindegewebe. Der gesamte Körperbau macht einen trockenen Eindruck, ist gut bemuskelt und proportioniert. Ohren und Schwanz werden in seinem Ursprungsland traditionsgemäß kupiert. Als Widerristhöhe wird bei Rüden 64 bis 68 cm mit einem Gewicht von 45 bis 50 kg gefordert. Bei Hündinnen sind es 60 bis 64 cm mit einem Gewicht von 40 bis 45 kg.

In this chapter we want to give you a small overview about the history and the character of the Cane Corso. Until today his origin is controversial. It is presumed that a form of this breed existed since the fourth century.

If we can believe in historical traditions, this breed first appeared in the southern areas of Italy. His direct ancestor is the old roman Molosser 'Canis Pugnacis'. Many years ago the Cane Corso was an admired protector of possession, cattle and people and he was gladly used for hunting.

Much illustration and historical sources show that this breed was scattered into whole Italy in the past.

Due to different circumstances the Cane Corso was threatened to die out. Some enthusiasts endeavoured after his rescue which today fortunately is designated as being managed.

The name of the Cane Corso itself comes from the roman word "cohors", which means "guardian, protector".

He is an unsurpassed guard and watchdog; he is devoted to his owner, gentle to children and their families.

Opposite foreigners he is rather restrained and incurious.

The official acknowledgement of the Cane Corso occurred in the FCI association in December 1996 in the FCI-group 2.

The Cane Corso is a middle sized dog, well-built, but in spite of that elegant and without anatomical exaggerations. He occurs in different colours.

His appearance provides the impression of persistence, strength and flexibility. He has strong bones, the head is massive, his look is full of fire, also noble and expressive.

The neck is strong and muscular, his skin is firmly connected to the connective tissue beneath. The impression of the entire physique is rather "dry", but very muscular and well proportioned.

Ears and tail are circumcised traditionally in his origin country.

For male dogs 64 to 68 cm as the hight of his shoulders and a weight of 45 to 50 kg is required. For female dogs it is 60 to 64 cm of hight and 40 to 45 kg of weight.
